The wait is nearly over!

If you've been cursing at our American friends who've been using the iPhone for the past few months, you're probably aware that the wait is now nearly over as at 6:02pm today, O2 will be launching the iPhone in the UK.

Why 6:02pm? Well, your guess is as good as ours but we like to think it's to represent the O2 network.

With fans already said to be queueing at the Apple store in London, the iPhone looks set to follow its successful debut in the US. Or is it?

Once the initial sales surge has passed, we'll be very interested to see how stock levels sustain and indeed how sales continue. With the iPhone being limited to the O2 network alone, it faces a barrier uncommon to most mobile phone launches.

Furthermore, the iPhone will only be available at a cost of £269 with a minimum 18 month contract of £35 per month. The majority of UK mobile phone users come to expect an upgrade at a largely reduced cost, if indeed not completely free. It's certainly questionable to wonder just how many will be willing to make the move to the iPhone at such costs.

Are you planning on picking up an iPhone this evening? Drop by our forums and give us your thoughts on the iPhone's UK launch.

Does it? And what's this iPhone thing then?
The iPhone has quite simply priced itself out of the market. A £35 a month contract I can understand, but to tack on another £269 in handset costs is crazy when the Nokia N95 (a compariable or superior handset) can be got on a similar contract for next to nothing.
Awesome!

/me goes to buy Kaiser.
want !!! and i got my £270 cash waiting !
I'd echo most of the above too, it looks really cool and I know I'd have fun playing with the interface but it's just not accessible to me. Firstly, I'm on Orange. I've been with them for a while and I could upgrade to the HTC TYTN II for next to nothing. There's just about no chance I'd switch to O2 and pay out that kinda money for an iPhone.
