Out with the old, in with the new

It wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to say that 2003's The Hulk was a box office flop. Despite enjoying the film myself, Marvel weren't impressed with its performance and decided to start over for 2008's instalment, The Incredible Hulk.

Out go the old cast, Eric Bana has been replaced with Edward Norton as Bruce Banner himself and Jennifer Connelly has promptly been substituted with Liv Tyler as Betty Ross. Director Ang Lee also misses out with Louis Leterrier taking over. Though fans of the wild but sensitive green monster have been eager for more details, the new movie has been kept under wraps thus far. Fortunately for us, superherohype.com has managed to obtain the first image of Hulk himself on a promotional poster.

The Incredible Hulk

As expected, he's big and he's green. Not too dissimilar from the 2003 movie. Still, I love The Hulk and the closing theme from the 70's TV series still gives me goosebumps. As one of very very few Hulk fans who really enjoyed the 2003 movie, I can't wait to see what The Incredible Hulk has in store when it opens in Summer 2008.

Will this be an animated Hulk?
Yep, the Hulk will be CGI with Edward Norton doing some motion caption work for it. From the poster, the Hulk does look similar to the 2003 movie, only a little meaner. Darker shade of green makes all the difference.

One of the complaints from fans with the 2003 movie was that Hulk just didn't smash up enough things, seeing as he has a history of doing quite a lot of that. I suspect he'll let rip in this new movie.
So is this a direct sequel from the previous film… with the nanobot/gamma radiation combination Hulk?
The guy who drafted the script said it is a sequel to 2003's Hulk, but it'll be different enough to also be considered a reboot.

I do wish they'd stop dipping into comics for films, I know they seem an obvious choice what with the well established characters, the scope for epic action sequences and of course provided the source material isn't too obscure you've got an instantly recognisable gang of heroes and villains; I quite like a few of the recent efforts, especially now the casting seems to be getting better (George Clooney as Batman….yeah) some of them are still shoddy though and after 2003's effort I'm skeptical about this even with Edward Nortons involvement.
