Michael Bay and Microsoft, now not friends

Director Michael Bay is at it again. Having literally gone mad when Paramount announced its exclusivity to HD DVD back in August, a move that saw Mr Bay create a thread on his forums titled "Paramount pisses me off!", he has decided to light the fires once more.

When a user complained yesterday that Bay's movies aren't available on Blu-Ray, it really must have struck a nerve within Bay himself as this was his official response:

"What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth."

Yep, you heard it right. The evil empire, more commonly known as Microsoft, is playing us all for fools. They're simply pouring millions and millions of dollars into the HD DVD format to help it...fail.

On the other hand, maybe Bay's theories aren't entirely science fiction. If Microsoft had to choose a winner, it would be HD DVD but if there wasn't a winner at all, would that be Microsoft's best outcome? Possibly so. Digital distribution is the way Microsoft seem to be moving forward, maybe Mr Bay is onto something.

Either that or it's all one big conspiracy aimed at getting users onto Bay's forums and watching his movies. Is he secretly pulling our strings?

I didn't want a format war in the first place, All its done in my view is turn me off of both formats. I won't buy either. Shooting themselves in the foot is my opinion of it all.

They both lose out.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up how I feel about it at the moment too.

Indeed. He mentions the “superior” blue ray. I was under the impression that HD-DVD was “leading” the “war” ?
