If 'i' stands for indestructible, say hello to the new iPhone!

Sonim Technologies, the US based mobile telecoms company has today launched its Sonim XP1 in Europe.

Having been available in the US for a few months already, the "indestructible" IP-54 certified, mil-spec approved, bluetooth and Push-To-Talk enabled GSM phone finally makes its way to our shores.

Certified to withstand shock, water, wind, dust, dirt and extreme temperatures, the XP1 is the mobile phone for those who demand more than just looks. Though saying that, the XP1 does come in a choice of six colours (black, yellow, red, lime, blue and grey) and I'm quite liking the yellow pictured below.

Bob Plaschke, CEO of Sonim states in an official press release: "If you're standing on a construction site with a welding tool in your hand, or are sitting in a catamaran with a hard wind in your face, you really don't need a fashion accessory nor a multimedia monster, you need a dependable working tool like the new XP1, built for extreme conditions."

If you're still not sure just how indestructible this phone really is, rest assured in the knowledge that it comes backed by an unconditional 3 year warranty and a lifetime warranty for the phone housing.

Joakim Wiklund, co-founder of Sonim Technologies states: "Research commissioned by us indicated that 70% of outdoor workers refrain from using their phones in the workplace because the phone might break, and 40% have broken their mobile phone in the last year, and common reasons are damage from humidity, dropping and crushing the phone. We are aiming to provide a solution to this problem."

For those who love seeing attempts at destructing the indestructible, here's a video of the Sonim XP1 being run over by a car. Can somebody please make a similar video using an iPhone so we can compare?

Don't worry, we've written to the kind folk at Sonim asking them to send us an XP1 so we can do some testing of our own.

HEXUS.destructive testing is needed. Will it stand some shotgun bullets, eh?
I vote for setting it alight! What use is a phone if it can't survive a fire intact?
