Woolworths opts to go Blu

If the so called war wasn't over when Warner Bros. chose to exclusively support Blu-ray, it surely is now as UK retailer, Woolworths, decides to stock only Blu-ray titles from March 2008.

DVD buyer for Woolworths, Steven McGunigel, said:

"Sales figures clearly show that the market is moving towards one format of high definition DVD."

"The main reason is the success of Sony's PlayStation 3 machine. Because it plays Blu-ray discs, there are over three quarters of a million homes in the UK that can view the new high definition format. There is no where near that number of HD-DVD players around."

Not wanting to count its chickens too soon however, Woolworths will still be selling HD-DVDs via its website.

Kinda feels a little boring now that the war is all but over, come on 20th Century Fox, make the jump to HD-DVD and fuel the fires once again.

I can't imagine Woolies sell that many HD disks of either format to make this a big deal, to be honest.
I think HD DVD is here to stay, as is Blu-ray. Why does there need to be only one format? My Media Center can play both anyway.
