Which Windows applications do you avoid?

I happened to stumble upon a blog post today, which dates back to August 2006, written by Anil Dash. Titled "The Windows Apps You Never Need To Install", Anil cites WinZip and Sketchy Codec Packs as two applications a Windows user should never install.

In a recent Microsoft presentation, Microsoft's general manager of worldwide system builder channel, Dana Manciagli, stated that 'crapware' is one of the most apparent problems facing PC sales today. She went on to state that resellers need to clean up PCs and prevent users from suffering plagued performance from the off.

So, we thought we'd pose the question to our HEXUS readers and seasoned PC veteransl; which applications would you recommend Windows users stay well clear of?

Can you think of applications that the less-knowledgeable user continues to use, unaware of the performance sacrifice being made? Or, do you know of applications suggested by the so called 'tech support' departments of big PC retailers such as PC World that frankly shouldn't be suggested?

Share your thoughts in the HEXUS forums, and if certain applications get more than a fair share of mentions, we may feel obliged to follow up with another article!

I should point out that what we're looking for here is genuine applications that cause more grief than they're worth. We're sure a lot of answers will read “Windows Vista” or “Internet Explorer”, but now that I've got that particular joke out the way, let's think outside the box a little. :)

*EDIT* It would also be really handy if people gave reasons, AND a suggested alternative or two. :)
Windows defender
Mine would have to be the likes of RealPlayer and QuickTime. How many media players can one need?

As an alternative, RealPlayer Alternative and QuickTime Alternative do a grand job.
Nero - the 1000 all in one software.
jackvdbuk
Nero - the 1000 all in one software.

x2, with CDBurnerXP/InfraRecorder instead

Adobe Reader/Acrobat - bloated and likes to have its fingers in all the pies.

Foxit Reader instead - Foxit Software

One step further would be OpenSource vs Paid for.

MS Office, Windows itself vs OpenOffice, Linux etc.
