HTC hasn't done a very good job of keeping its Touch Diamond under wraps, and chances are, you've seen it already. Well, now that it's official, there are plenty more details and plenty more pictures.

The handset, pictured above, is HTC's latest offering of Windows Mobile goodness. At its official unveiling in London today, Peter Chou, president and CEO of HTC Corporation, said:

"Today we mark a new era in mobile phone evolution, an era where beauty and size integrate with uncompromising innovation at broadband speeds. The HTC Touch Diamond will make browsing the Web and using Web-enabled applications just as practical and easy to use as making calls."

The Touch Diamond, which HTC hopes will make its product range more appealing to the general consumer as opposed to business users, makes use of a 3D version of HTC's TouchFlo interface. The device itself packs features such as HSDPA, GPRS, a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus, 4GiB of internal storage and a 2.8in VGA screen. The hardware, coupled with the latest version of Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, 6.1, makes the device highly tempting.

The new-and-improved TouchFlo interface is said to make usability more fun and simpler than ever. Here's a short promo video showing what TouchFlo can do:

It certainly looks the part, but is it enough? Though HTC's efforts with TouchFlo and Windows Mobile are worthy of recognition, we shouldn't forget what TouchFlo's main purpose is: to cover up and hide the clunky Windows Mobile interface beneath it.

We're looking forward to getting our mitts on the Touch Diamond, but we're certainly not calling it a new age for mobile phones. We'll leave that for Windows Mobile 7.

The HTC Touch Diamond will be available next month from Orange, prices are yet to be announced.

The new interface loooks stunning. And the phone isn't bad itself. Not usually a fan of the very shiney devices, but this one is nice.

The initial interface is really good and HTC have spent a lot of time/resources on it, no arguing about that. The only issue may be once you get past the initial screens, how much of the WinMob 6.1 interface is still there. If they have all the common functions of day to day use in the new GUI then this could be a winner. I wouldn't mind having to use a stylus with the original UI for settings and configuration, but if it drops you into the standard messaging app for texts emails and MMSs then this goes down as an EPIC FAIL.

Will be interesting to see a Kaiser replacement using this basic hardware and software. Oh wait, its called the SonyEricsson X1 ;)

ergh, it looks like an apple fan boy was sent back in time to the 80s.

I'm normally a fan of HTC devices, but this thing looks like it lost a fight with Kryten.
Looks interesting.. though, I very much doubt it'll compete with the iPhone.

Think i'll stick with my iPhone till a 3G version of it is available, or the Experia comes out
Xaar

Considering the current range of HTC phones are vastly superior to the iphone (for enthusiasts - I admit the average guy won't make the most out of a ppc phone) - I don't know why anyone would choose an iphone over these, unless the iphone is very cheap (like the £169 deal)
