Ian Taylor makes a stand

Clamped driver, Ian Taylor, from Tredworth, Gloucestershire, has protested to his Ford Fiesta being clamped by cutting it in half with an angle-grinder.

The Fiesta, originally purchased for Mr Taylor's stepson with the intention of restoring it, was deemed beyond repair and was due to be scrapped. The car, therefore untaxed, remained on Mr Taylor's driveway.

Unfortunately for My Taylor, the car extended roughly two inches past his driveway and was therefore deemed by the NCP to be parked on the road and subsequently clamped. To his astonishment, Mr Taylor was then told by the DVLA that he'd need to pay £200 to have it released.

Mr Taylor said he attempted to explain to the DVLA that the car had a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) and was therefore legally parked on his drive. When he realised he wasn't making any headway with the DVLA, he tried something a little more drastic - he cut the car in two using an angle-grinder.

Alarmed onlookers called 999, citing "a man wielding a chain saw", and both police and fire services arrived on scene. Though the police took no action, the clamp was removed and Mr Taylor was told he could keep the car.

"I had to make a point. The vehicle was totally legal where it was. These people are petty and won’t listen to you. It was a drastic step but I stand by my decision," said Taylor.

The NCP Services on the other hand claim that at least half of the car was parked on the public pavement. James Pritchard of the NCP Services said:

"We were astonished at the reaction this gentleman had to the fact we put a clamp on his car. It was a remarkable incident which highlighted some of the problems my colleagues face while they're doing what is a very important job in ensuring that motorists tax their vehicle."

"And in cutting his car in two, he managed to put both himself at risk and also a number of bystanders - along with ourselves, the police had to be called and the fire brigade, as he set fire to the car while cutting it in two."

"Fortunately, the only damage was done to his car and as far as our people are concerned we stand by what they did."

LOL good on ya fella
Power to D people! - taken a step further..

it would have been easier to jack the wheel up and use a grinder on the axle to cut off the wheel!
hindsight is a great thing.
Really petty by the NCP to clamp it anyway really, but cutting the car in half might have been going a little over the top!
Wait….. wut…..
as he set fire to the car while cutting it in two."
