One For All's latest universal remote, the Energy Saver, promises to make an energy saving of up to 90 per cent when you're done watching TV. So, how does it work?

Well, it's really quite simple. The remote comes bundled with a power plug that you simply attach to your existing multiple-outlet surge protector. Once wired up, the remote, which can control up to four devices, has a shiny green button in its centre. Hit that, and the power plug will fully switch off all of your attached devices.

According to One For All, a typical set of a/v equipment uses 9.7 Watts an hour if left on standby mode. It claims that using the Energy Saver remote will cut that power usage down to 0.9 Watts, and could save users up to 74.34 Kilowatts a year.

Granted, it isn't as pretty or as feature packed as a Logitech Harmony One - but then, the Harmony won't be doing the environment any good now will it?

If being green is your thing, the Energy Saver remote will be reaching major stockists including Dixons online and John Lewis at the end of May, with a retail price of Ā£39.99.
