With Steve Jobs having taken the wraps off Apple's iPhone 3G, you may have forgotten that other mobile phones do in fact still exist.

Fans of camera phones, however, won't be convinced by Apple's measly 2 megapixels. Opportunity beckons, and Sony Ericsson, the self-proclaimed king of camera phones, looks set to take advantage with its forthcoming Cyber-shot C905, an 8.1 megapixel camera phone - complete with xenon and LED flashes.

The C905 slider-phone, pictured above, goes by the codename of Shiho and is expected to be officially announced on June 17th.

Sony Ericsson is sticking with its tried-and-trusted design, and though the handset might not look a whole lot different, it packs a camera which boasts auto focus, face recognition, image stabilisation, BestPic, smart contrast, red-eye reduction and xenon and LED flashes for photo and video captures. There's even built-in A-GPS and geo-tagging support for all you photo-fiends.

It's clearly all about the camera, but there's also built-in Wi-Fi. It'll come bundled with a 2GiB memory stick, measures 104 x 49 x 18mm and weighs 136 grams. It features a 2.4in QVGA screen and its GMS battery life is said to offer 380 hours standby and 9 hours talk time.

Interested? Keep your eyes peeled in Q4 when it'll become available in Copper Gold, Ice Silver and Night Black.

Still waiting for a proper Phone Camera rather than a Camera Phone.

Sony alreay have a super thin 3x optical zoom camera, could they not shoehorn that module into a phone? along with the image processing.

Now that would be killer.

1,000,000 x agreed

Im sure they could sacrifice a bit of size for an actual effective camera phone with proper lens groups rather than electro sensitive liquid
