If you're a BT Broadband customer suffering from lower than expected speeds, and BT's Interstitial Plate didn't fill you with confidence, you'll be happy to hear there's now another prospective solution; BT Broadband Accelerator.

The service, available now to BT Broadband customers, involves a £90 home visit from a BT engineer. BT promises customers a speed increase of at least 0.5Mb as a result of the visit, or your money back.

The service, clearly aimed at the less tech-savvy, has come under criticism from Oli White, Head of Marketing at Be Broadband. Mr White states:

BT aim to close the speed gap on Be by 0.5Mbps. That still leaves them a further 2.2Mbps behind Be's average speed ... and they are charging £90 in the process. This shows just how much Be’s broadband service is value for money.

Customers should also be weary of BT Broadband Accelerator's hidden charges. The £90 visit includes work undertaken during the first hour. If the BT engineer requires additional time, you'll be subject to an additional charge. Ouch.

Saw this on thinkbroadband… its looks like a scam to me lol… the tweaks are easy enough to do yourself… and if they really wanted to con you they could just sync higher (at the cost of stability)
what a waste of money. I wonder which mugs will buy this off BT.
thinkbroadband have loads of information on getting the most out of RADSL :)

Suckers :-p
The quickest way to get the best out of ur bb is to move the router to the test socket. Removes all internal wiring and will give u better speeds.

I think i might go into competition with bt against that. I can do it a lot cheaper and have more knowledge on BB than most of BT engineers i`ve met.
