Apple has officially launched its successor to .Mac in the form of MobileMe, a service which marks Apple's latest attempt at cracking cloud-based solutions.
MobileMe carries an annual subscription similar to .Mac, and all existing customers will be automatically migrated.
Though the service resembles .Mac in many ways, a key difference is its cross-platform support. The service is no longer limited to Apple's desktop and notebook devices, and will now run on Apple's iPhone and Microsoft Windows-based computers. In addition, MobileMe will finally bring support for push e-mail and Microsoft Exchange.
Despite the cross-platform promise, however, Apple has taken the time to trample on Microsoft's flagship browser, Internet Explorer 7. Users who navigate to me.com via IE7 will be presented first with the following warning:
We're not doubting the facts included in the message, but we feel it could have been worded a little nicer. Microsoft will no doubt be feeling a little miffed, as will Opera who've been omitted from the alternative suggestions.
