U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has continued in his ambition to become an "Internet president" by launching the first in a series of weekly Democratic addresses on YouTube.

The Senator is known to have a keen interest in technology, and is rarely seen without his BlackBerry device. Earlier this month, Mr Obama's personal election night photos were published to another hugely-popular web-based service, Flickr.

Obama's first YouTube address, embedded below, lasts three-and-a-half minutes and focuses heavily on the current economic crisis.

Mr Obama promises to continue his YouTube addresses once he has taken over office, and hopes to speak directly to the web-generation that followed him in huge numbers during his election campaign.
