While HD content isn't growing in capacity as quickly as we'd like, Virgin Media's on-demand services are quickly becoming more appealing.

With noteworthy services such as BBC iPlayer already available, the cable TV company is today bolstering its on-demand line-up with the addition of Setanta Replay. Available to all 'XL' TV subscribers at no additional cost, and to all 'M' or 'L' TV subscribers at a cost of Ā£7 per month, Setanta Replay will offer sports programmes for up to seven days after the live broadcast.

Virgin Media now claims to average in the region of 45 million on-demand views each month, and CEO of content Malcolm Wall claims Setanta Replay will "further drive uptake of on demand and keep changing the way people watch TV".

In terms of football, we find it tough to go a few hours on a Saturday afternoon without someone sharing the scores prior to Match of the Day. Trying to hold out on results in an effort to replicate live viewing up to seven days later could be quite a challenge, and the appeal of replayed sport remains to be seen.
