The BBC and Virgin Media have today announced that HD content via BBC iPlayer is now available to Virgin Media customers.

iPlayer's recently-introduced HD content includes programmes such as Robin Hood, Gardeners' World and Doctor Who, all of which are now accessible on demand via Virgin Media's V+ set-top box.

Since the addition of iPlayer to Virgin Media's on-demand service in May 2008, over 100 million views have been registered and Virgin Media will be keen to continue to benefit from being able to provide BBC's hugely-popular catch up service directly to TV customers.

Katharine Burns Rivington, executive director of content acquisition at Virgin Media, said:

"As more households become HD Ready, we're keen to ensure that Virgin Media customers benefit from the most advanced digital TV service possible. BBC iPlayer has been a huge success on our TV platform and we're thrilled to be expanding the service with HD content. We're looking forward to increasing our line-up of broadcast HD channels over the next few months and combining the very best of HD and on demand TV."

Have you tried BBC iPlayer HD via Virgin Media's V+? If so, we'd love to hear your thoughts and impressions in the HEXUS.community forums.

Great news! Will try it out tonight.
I wonder if the BBC actually remember about that thing they call Freesat that they launched last year? C'mon, give us some love!

Good news for Virgin customers i guess. Kinda regretting the PZ81 purchase now, may as well have got a PZ80 and another Sky+ HD box (i didn't because Sky wanted £200 for it, the PZ81 only cost me £100 more than the PZ80).
Sounds good. May have to check this out.
Well, that's carp. If there's one programme that gets broadcast on BBC HD that I'd want in HD, it'd be Later With Jools Holland. Is it there? Is it heck as like. BBC, are you listening?
Same with Friday night with Jonathan Ross - broadcast on BBC HD, available on iplayer in HD, yet virgin media on demand is only standard definition.
