You might be sick of the seemingly-endless price comparison advertisements that have flooded our TV screens in recent years, but we've come across a newcomer that could be useful for music lovers.

CompareDownload.com, the latest price-comparison website, compares the cost of digital music downloads offered by a number of big-name services such as Amazon, iTunes, 7digital and others. Users simply enter the name of the track that they're after, and CompareDownload will check a number of digital stores and return available prices - allowing you to choose the cheapest on offer.

It's a simple idea, and useful in theory, but CompareDownload.com is certainly rough around the edges in its current beta form.

We've found navigation to be cumbersome, and prices on occasion can be incorrectly reported - Michael Jackson's Bad album, for instance, isn't available from Tesco for 77p, unfortunately.

Another major oversight is that the site lists only the price of searched-for tracks, and there's currently no way of knowing the format or bit-rate of the music without visiting the respective stores. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a quick way to compare the price of digital music downloads, this could be one for the bookmarks.

Nice idea, but somewhat buggy and feature lacking.

For instance, searching for Kelpe, then selecting album only, gave me xxxxxxx (Album version) Oops.

Also then it assumes all suppliers tracks are equal, they are not, it needs to have format + bitrate. 10p cheaper is a rip off if the album has DRM.
