The Rubick's Cube has been around since 1974, and the often-infuriating toy is already believed to be the best-selling puzzle game of all time.

However, Hong Kong-based manufacturer of electronic toys Techno Source has decided to give the age-old game a refresh for the 21st century. The new-and-supposedly-improved Rubik's TouchCube is hitting retail today and revamps the original design with six touch-sensitive sides.

The Rubik's TouchCube features coloured lights in each square, and an accelerometer that determines which way up the cube is being held. It works by just swiping a finger to rotate cubes, but we wonder if it'll still make that addictive clicking sound?

If you're planning on picking one up, the current "speedcuber" record for the Rubik's TouchCube is held by Stefan Pochmann, who solved the revamped puzzle in just 1 minute and 32.75 seconds. That's quick, but it's no match for the 7 second world record on the original.

Want to know how much? Well, a bog-standard Rubik's Cube can generally be yours for under a tenner. The Rubik's TouchCube, meanwhile, can be ordered at Amazon.co.uk at a cost of £139.99.

I'm not convinced. One of the main features of the original is that it's very tactile, I can't imagine that an electronic version would give the same kind of feedback.

And seriously, £140 for a Rubik's Cube?
Orignally i thought hmm this will be a nice novelty and its my dad's birthday coming up.

Then i saw the price tag.
Its too expensive to hit with a hammer when you get frustrated with it. I found the fastest way for me to do the cube was to take it apart. Removing a battery just isn't as rewarding.
Reminds me of the LightsOut Cube I had when I was just a boy:
