PURE Digital, a British company synonymous with high-quality DAB radios, has today unveiled the latest addition to its range in the form of the Élan II.

The portable system, pictured below, supports both DAB and FM broadcasts, and it's future proof with support for DAB+, too.

Designed to bring "a stylish, modern twist and contemporary materials to traditional radio design", the Élan II sports a black satin finish, an aluminium fascia, aluminium controls and a chrome handle. As with most PURE products, it's an acquired taste, but it's certainly eye catching.

As far as functionality is concerned, the Élan II has most everyday requirements covered. In addition to supporting both DAB and FM broadcasts, it incorporates ReVu technology to allow listeners to pause and rewind live DAB radio.

A built-in display will allow for intellitext and textSCAN information, and there's an auxiliary input for hooking up your own audio source. Although mains powered, those wanting to use it as a portable may want to invest in an optional ChargePAK battery. Proving it's usefulness around the house, Élan II also offers an alarm and a kitchen timer.

We wouldn't expect ground-breaking sound from a unit measuring 280mm x 161mm x 88mm, but PURE's pair of full-range 3in drivers offering a total power output of 5 watts should be adequate for radio use.

Ticking all the right boxes? The Élan II will be in stores in time for Christmas priced at £99. PURE's complete specification can be found below.

Looks mighty nice, but I'm not sure I'd want to swap it for my Pure Evoke II just yet. I do love Pure radio's though, the build & sound quality are top-notch, although they are marginally expensive for what they are. However, they are a undoubtedly a quality product.

Now if they made the Flow with stereo speakers, then I'd be tempted.
