Just a week after announcing the imminent arrival of Eurosport HD, Virgin media has revealed that Discovery HD will join its channel line up this spring.

Discovery HD, scheduled to broadcast 24 hours a day, will offer Virgin Media customers over 1,500 hours of HD programming, and will become the broadcaster's ninth high-definition channel.

In addition to offering the dedicated Discovery HD channel, Virgin Media will also make available a library of Discovery HD content via its on-demand service.

Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: "Discovery’s engrossing programming is all the more amazing in High-Definition and will make a compelling addition to our growing HD line-up."

"We’re adding several more HD channels in the coming months, which we will make available to our XL TV customers for no extra monthly fee. Compelling channels, combined with our vast collection of on-demand programming, will ensure that our customers have the best overall HD entertainment package available."

Virgin Media's HD line up is available to customers subscribed to the XL TV packaged, charged at £21.50 per month. Of the 165+ channels available, seven are currently available in HD - BBC HD, 4HD, ESPN HD, Nat Geo HD, MTVNHD, FX HD and Living HD - with Eurosport HD and Discovery HD scheduled to raise the HD channel count to nine in the near future.
