Square Box to release CatDV 4.1 video logger and media database

Available for Mac OS X and Windows, in both standalone and networked configurations

STRATFORD-UPON-AVON, UK - Square Box Systems Ltd have announced the forthcoming release of CatDV 4.1, a major update to their CatDV media asset database and video logging tools. CatDV 4.1 is a scalable media asset database, suitable for all types of media file but with particular emphasis on video formats. Features include automatic scene detection, integration with Final Cut Pro, and automatic substitution of preview movies when the original media are offline.

This new version adds support for importing and exporting Final Cut Pro XML files, permitting seamless exchange of clip logging information and sequences between the CatDV database and Final Cut Pro browser window (complete with links to the media files). It also adds support for importing as well as exporting Avid ALE log files, simplifying the exchange of clip data in mixed editing environments.

CatDV 4.1 will enhance the productivity of anyone using Final Cut Pro or similar editing applications in many ways. For example, users get the benefit of CatDV's advanced logging tools, including automatic scene detection and the Verbatim Logger, or they can create a network searchable repository of clip information for sharing between editors and producers.

CatDV 4.1 introduces a number of user interface enhancements, such as labels on toolbar buttons, and a quick-search text box to filter clips in the main window, familiar to anyone who has used iTunes or other iLife applications. The emphasis has been on making CatDV 4.1 easier to use and quicker to get started with than ever before.

CatDV 4.1 is a free upgrade for existing users of CatDV 4.0, while the cost of CatDV 4.1 Professional Edition for new users is just $275. CatDV 4.1 Personal Edition, a lower cost ($79) introductory version, is available also. All prices are for online sales and are quoted in US$, excluding sales tax.

An advanced beta version of 4.1 is available for free download now, with the final release expected to follow early in the new year.
