Mobile phones are great for keeping you in touch but always seem to run out of charge at the time when you most urgently need to make or take a call. So users of Sony Ericsson phones will be pleased to learn of the intended Q3-introduction of the Micro Travel Charger CMT-60 and the mid-summer-arriving Two Port Standard Charger CST-75, even though prices are not yet known.

The Micro Travel Charger CMT-60 has two things going for it. First, its neat form-factor and small size - possible only because it has a two-pin power plug. On the downside, that means than an adaptor will be required unless you know there will be an available shaver socket (or are travelling in two-pin-socket land).

Second and more significant still, the unit, unlike its forerunner the CMT-10, can hold two internal batteries (AA-size), enabling you to get a phone up and running without relying on finding the right type of socket or any mains power at all. The quoted weight - 63.5g/2.3oz - also means that the charger isn't going to be a problem to carry around, though you'll have to factor in the weight of two batteries, of course.

The Two Port Standard Charger CST-75 tackles a slightly different flat-battery problem - how to keep on using the phone while it's charging - and be able to transfer files or listen to music at the same time. It's said to have a  retractable connector that lets you piggy-back the system-connector of a  portable handsfree, USB cable, music cable or portable speakers while making a call and charging the phone's battery.

Hopefully, the company will be offering this model in a three-pin-power variant when it's launched in the summer. Inverterate travellers might well want a two-pin version for abroad but they and everyone else would find life easier if there were a three-pin model for use in the UK. Although the CST-75 isn't quite so compact as the CMT-60, it still won't be a burden to carry around - it weighs just 70g/2.5oz.

Thoughts on these Sony Ericsson chargers or rival products that might offer the same (or more) for less? We'd be delighted to hear them in the HEXUS.community.
