W710 - speakers not included
Sony Ericsson's W710
Walkman phone, due Q3, has a motion-sensor, as well as a fitness
utility reckoned to measure running speed, distance and time or, for
less sporty types, the number of footsteps taken (slowly or otherwise). It incorporates an FM radio and
a 2-Megapixel camera with digital zoom and comes with a 512MB Memory
Stick Micro (M2) - a 1GB stick is an upgrade option.
The jogging application is reckoned to be easily accessed (and
controlled) from the display on the outside of the phone (so it can be
checked and adjusted while running) and from the
main display within - and results are also shown while the phone is in
standby. The step counter resets automatically at midnight so
couch-potatoes and computer die-hards need to take note before then of
how many paces they took that day as they moved from in front
of the screen to the kitchen or loo, and back again.
In the image above, you'll see the phone fitted onto the Active Clip
IAC-60 - an accessory that lets it be carried on the
arm or waist or clipped to a bag and is supplied as standard.
A set of headphones is also included - the Stereo Portable
Handsfree HPM-65 (picture below) - and these are said to remain in
place even while jogging. Sony Ericsson also points out that, as with
all Walkman
phones, the music mutes when the phone rings, so there's no chance
of missing a
call.
Windows
software is supplied in pack for music management and transfer. The
program, Disc2Phone Music Management, is said to allow easy CD ripping
and transfer of tracks from PC to phone. Tracks in existing music
libraries can also be transferred by drag-and-drop and will bring with
them details of artist, album and track. As you'd expect, the W710's
memory card is seen as an external drive when the phone is connected to
a PC by USB cable.
Other notable features include Megabass; search and sort by
artist, album, track and playlist; flight mode (turns the phone off but
leaves it still able to play music); 20 FM station presets; radio-alarm
function; and music recognition using the new
Gracenote
Mobile MusicID service. This requires the user to record a few
seconds of a song on the mic or the radio and then send it to Gracenote
- track info is then relayed back.
Model variants
The
W710 Walkman phone is said to be a quad-band EDGE/GPRS
model available in two colours ("Performance Graphite" - as shown above
- and "Hatha Violet") and two variants. The W710i Quad Band
EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 is for use in Europe, Middle East,
Africa, and Americas. The W710c Quad Band EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 for
