Those of you with a nasty streak may relish the idea that Sony's recently announced global recall of batteries could result in a number of UK purchasers of Toshiba laptop PCs being given their money back and getting new battery packs on top.
How so? Well, Toshiba UK is running a peace-of-mind money-back promotion on Satellite Pro 120 and Tecra A8 notebook PCs fitted with Intel Centrino Duo CPUs. It covers machines bought between September 1 and November 30 of this year and promises a refund if the computer "develops a technical fault that can be repaired by your Toshiba Authorised Service Provider (or replaced if a repair can not be effected)".
Now, what you also need to know is that, following Toshiba's September 19 battery recall, the company announced on September 28 that it would be signing up to the global Sony battery-recall scheme - though has yet to say how this will be carried out or what models will fall within its net.
We reckon it's long shot but it is possible that some of the Satellite Pro 120 and Tecra A8 models will be affected by the September 28 recall and that the small print in Tosh's promotion is wooly enough to let people argue that the replacement of the battery constitutes a technical fault and, thus, falls within the terms of the promotion.
Just don't go blaming us if you try this little scam and get no joy from Toshiba.
