The latest release version of HEXUS's favourite web browser - Mozilla Firefox - is due to come available for download in the early hours of Wednesday morning (for those on GMT) or during Tuesday afternoon for those on US Pacific Time (Update - now available here).

It's expected that V2 will be a renamed version of last week's Release Candidate 3, so if you're using that, there's no need to rush to get a download.

Mozilla list the following user enhancements in V2:

* Inline spell checking for text areas lets you compose with confidence in web forms.
* Microsummaries provide a way to create bookmarks that display information pulled from the site they refer to, updated automatically. Great for stock tickers, auction monitoring, and so forth.
* Extension Manager user interface has been enhanced.
* Search engine manager lets you rearrange and remove search engines shown in the search bar.
* Tabbed browsing enhancements include adding close buttons to each tab, adjustments to how Firefox decides which tab to bring you to when you close the current tab, and simplified preferences for tabs.
* Autodetection of search engines allows search engines that offer plugins for the Firefox search bar to offer to install their plugins for you.
* Search suggestions allow search engines to offer suggested search terms based on what you've typed so far in the search bar.
* Phishing Protection to warn users when the web site you're looking at appears to be a forgery.

Oh, and we'd expect all the download servers and mirrors to be very busy - even now - so would also suggest that those who've not already downloaded RC3 don't waste bandwidth doing so but simply wait to get V2 instead.

We have included below the link for Firefox downloads but what's currently available is V1.5.0.7, so but don't bother looking for V2 until tomorrow or unless we do an update telling you it's live.

To get more details on V2 - including enhancements for developers (and to take a further look at the interface changes) - check out Mozilla's own review by Percy Cabello.

Have you been using Firefox RC3 or the recent release version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7? Or just got some thoughts to share on browsers generally? Be keen to hear your take in the HEXUS.lifestyle.news forum.

It's out.

Edit: And I was a whole 22 minutes behind the times on that one. I'll have to be quicker next time.
Thanks for the heads-up - now updated the main news story and frontpaged it on Lifestyle and core.
I find this release less stable than the one i had. Now firefox would randomly crash where as it used to never do that. It looks a bit prettier though….
Well I gave it a go but it's really not attracting me away from Opera - not that FF is bad but it's just a bit clunky by comparison. I have to say IE7 isn't half bad either (shocking)..
Firefox still my browser of choice, though IE7 isn't bad…
I get mega long waits with IE phishing protection on though!
