Apple will charge $29 for the final version of its Boot Camp utility for Mac OS X Tiger, according to rumours site MacScoop.

The utility allows you to set up Windows to run natively on Intel Macs and the final version is thought likely to be compatible with the new version of Windows, Vista, due out at the end of January.

This final Boot Camp for Tiger is expected in a month or two or whenever the next version of OS X, Leopard, eventually appears.

Presumably, Apple is thinking to give Windows-using Mac owners an additional incentive to upgrade to OS X Leopard, since that will have an equivalent tool built in, and appear cheaper than it would do otherwise.

We'll have to wait and see whether that $29 fee (which we'd guess will translate to Ā£20 in the UK) is actually imposed but if it is, it'll show that Apple's isn't above pulling dirty tricks - though it's really not in the same league as Microsoft, judging by the prices that are going to be charged for retail versions of Vista. See this HEXUS.lifestyle.opinion for more on that potential balls-up.
