Five short films came available today for free mobile-phone download, courtesy of the Global Short Film Festival - a tie-up between the Sundance Film Festival and the GSM Association for this week's 3GSM World Congress.

The five films are:

A Slip in Time by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris - described as, "A motion study of slapstick comedy"
Learning to Skateboard by Jody Hill - "A corporate worker calls in sick. In his quest to liberate himself from the daily grind he embarks on a quest for freedom by learning how to skateboard"
¡La Revolucion de Iguodala! by Justin Lin - "Tracks one man’s passionate message as it travels through various forms and agendas"
Los Viajes de King Tiny by Maria Maggenti - "about a small dog who takes off by himself while his owner is at work"
Reno by Cory McAbee - "A singing cowboy brags about his travels through Nevada on a Honda 50 to a store security camera"

Currently, there looks to be no way to get the films except via a video-capable mobile. To do that, you first need to text the word FILM to +447624807811.

A reply will come back to your mobile with a link to the Sundance Film Festival Global Short Film Project's mobile web page where there are details of films and their makers. But don't expect the reply to arrive instantly - we've still received nothing two hours after texting.

Each film also has a thumbnail link to click on to start streaming or downloading to your phone.

The downloaded films are royalty-free and can be shared by swapping a memory card or transferring over Bluetooth. Alternatively, there's an option on the site to send email invitations so friends know to visit and download for themselves.

While visiting the site, you can also cast votes and make comments about the films and enter a compo to win tickets to the 2008 Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah. Travel to the USA, we're assuming, isn't part of the prize.

Go grab the videos - if you can - and tell us what you think of these freebies in the HEXUS.community.

Update

This is the link that we eventually received by mobile:
http://e-clips.mobi/sd_LEO9NQ4

It arrived at 20:05, our original having been sent at 16:38.

You can access the link in a PC's web browser but not download or stream the videos - that requires a compatible mobile phone.
