The news
On the day that Sky stopped supplying its 'basic' (non-sports and non-movie) TV channels to cable - see, Sky pulls its non-premium channels from Virgin Media cable - the company delivered a further poke in the eye to its competitor by announcing that its free internet-based remote-recording service is now live.
Sky says that the arrival of Remote Record means that millions of viewers with Sky+ and Sky HD boxes can now set recordings of their favourite shows from where ever in the world they're online.
The new free service runs alongside the mobile Remote Record service launched last year - see, Sky+ offers remote recording via mobile or web.
You can access Remote Record from http://www.sky.com/remoterecord, where it's possible, Sky says, to view its seven-day TV guide, "search it by time, day or programme name and select programmes to record with a few simple clicks".
