TOSHIBA ANNOUNCES THIRD HD DVD PLAYER FOR EUROPEAN MARKET

• HD-EP10 combines 1080p output with highly competitive price point

• Third standalone player set to further drive uptake of HD DVD format

15 March 2007 - Toshiba today announces its third standalone HD DVD player for the European market – the HD-EP10. Identical at first glance to its much-lauded sister player, the HD-E1, the HD-EP10 boasts a similar technical specification and the same popular matt-black design with silver finish. However, the HD-EP10 differs in one crucial area – it is capable of delivering output at 1080p, the highest resolution currently available.

Significantly, the cost of the HD-EP10 is just as competitive as the HD-E1 was at launch. With a recommended retail price of approximately €699, the HD-EP10 represents stunning value for money, and will be by far the most competitively priced 1080p capable high definition disc player available in the European market.

“Toshiba’s HD-E1 and HD-XE1 set benchmarks in high definition home entertainment, both in terms of performance and value for money,” said Olivier Van Wynendaele, Deputy General Manager, HD DVD, Toshiba Information Systems(UK) Ltd., “and the HD-EP10 raises the bar yet again. We want consumers to experience the highest HD resolution currently available at a price that’s right for the market - and that’s exactly what the HD-EP10 achieves. With three quality standalone players, and more than 100 titles available in Europe by the end of Q1 2007, the launch of the HD-EP10 is another significant step towards establishing HD DVD as the natural successor to DVD.”

With 1080p output, the HD-EP10 takes advantage of the breathtaking image quality offered by the HD DVD format, delivering exceptional richness of colour and clarity of detail. The player will also upscale standard DVD discs to 720p, 1080i and 1080p, ensuring that existing movie collections can be displayed in the best quality possible. Next-generation sound to match is delivered via support for the Dolby Digital Plus™, Dolby True HD™ and DTS HD™ formats.

HD DVD’s advanced interactivity provides the best special features available on the market – such as picture-in-picture video commentary, in-movie menus and an internet connection for the potential to access additional features – all helping to achieve a truly next-generation home cinema experience.

HD-EP10 Key Features:

* 1080p video output

* Supports the playback of HD DVD, DVD, DVD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW and CD formats

* Ethernet port supports internet connectivity for access to additional HD DVD feature content[i]

* Audio support for Dolby Digital™, Dolby Digital Plus™, Dolby True HD™, DTS™, DTS-HD™ and Linear PCM™[1]

It would be interesting to see inside one of these and the HD-XE1. At that price point they can't be using a P4 with 1gig RAM and RedHat booting off a CompactFlash card and doing virtually everything in sortware.
